Re-valuing NHS Green and Blue Space

Type: Health-Led Regeneration, System Alignment

A scenic landscape with a large tree on the left, smaller trees and green fields stretching into the distance, hills on the horizon, and the sun partially veiled by clouds in the sky.

The brief

Shift the perspective of NHS land as a sellable asset and demonstrate green and blue spaces (parks, woodland, open space, water ways) are high value healthy infrastructure capable of delivering long term social impact.

Who was it for: NHS Trust

What we did: Stakeholder and partner engagement, multi-capital assessment, and vision and intent document development.

Loxie approach:

  • Looking beyond financial value: Conduct a strategic review using a multi-capital approach to identify that natural assets deliver returns in community resilience and preventative health that far outweigh a one-off sale

  • Innovative funding models: Explore alternative partnerships and nature-led solutions that move discussions away from bricks and mortar and more towards ecosystems that actively support wellbeing

  • Strategic resilience: Reframe land as a health tool , and provide a roadmap outlining a future where green and blue space is a primary driver for social connectivity and prevention
